Artist’s Statement
I believe the success of any piece of artwork lies in its connection to the viewer through the depth of the emotional content implanted in it by the artist. As an oil painter, I consider a major function of a painting to be in that connection. My intent is in creating works that engage the audience either through subtle narrative or allegorical content, or through simple appreciation of aesthetic sensibilities.
I am interested in addressing in my work a statement on human consciousness and emotional awareness in our current time and syncronicities in our experiences. There is an energy surrounding each of us that emotion can travel through, connecting us all. As I paint, I am aware of the connective power an image can have on its audience.
The main element in my work is figurative, allowing unlimited means of addressing any subject through the expressive beauty of the human form. There is limitless opportunity to incorporate meaning from both personal
experience and inspirations drawn from interactions with others. I paint people because I am interested in their story; where their experiences have taken them to shape this character I am painting. When I am choosing a model for specific content, her personality and character must interact with the meaning behind the pose. This connection between model, artist, content and viewer completes the picture and in my mind, brings it to life.
